Adela Beltran
Adela Beltran Sancho is a Catalan painter and graphic designer whose work bridges classical tradition and contemporary expression. Trained in Barcelona and born in Alcanar in 1973, her practice is deeply rooted in academic techniques from the 19th century, reinterpreted through a personal visual language rich in symbols and material experimentation. Working with oil, acrylic, wax, paper, and mixed media on diverse supports, Beltran creates powerful portraits that give voice to women erased from history.
Her acclaimed series Women of the 1700s, portraying them as strong, brave, and timeless protagonists. By transferring elements of the past into the present, Beltran reclaims space for women who were never seen or heard in their own time. Her work is held in private collections and foundations internationally, and she has exhibited in cities such as Barcelona, New York, and Budapest. She has been represented by Toolip Art Gallery since 2022. Beyond her studio practice, she is also cofounder of Fundació Úniques, a private art foundation dedicated to promoting women artists from the Catalan countries worldwide.
