Nicolas Meriel

Nicolas Mériel was born in Helsinki and raised between Sweden, Germany, and France, a multicultural upbringing that continues to shape his artistic perspective. He lives and works in Barcelona. Trained in computational linguistics, he holds a Master of Arts from the University of Manchester. Since 2014, Mériel has developed Flamboyant Flowers, a long-term photographic project that has led to publications such as A Flower a Day (2020) and Blooming Book. His practice is informed by archetypal astrology and a deep interest in revealing the spiritual and symbolic dimensions of flowers. Toolip Art Gallery has represented Nicolas Mériel since 2021.

The gallery presents works from Flamboyant Flowers, including the Flower-Planets series. This body of work reflects on the solar system through the hermetic principle “as above, so below.” Eleven works represent the Sun, the Moon, and the nine planets, each associated with a flamboyant flower mapped to its astrological archetype, creating a poetic dialogue between the cosmos and the natural world.
