Erica Aitken

Erica Aitken was a Belgian-born artist based in Santa Cruz, California. With a background in graphic design and commercial printing, her work explored the contrast between precision and imperfection through inkjet and silkscreen techniques. By layering these mediums, she created images that reflected social, political, and emotional uncertainty, where controlled processes met intentional accidents.

A graduate of the École de Recherches Graphiques in Brussels, Aitken returned to art after a career in printing and design. Her practice combined photography, printmaking, and personal narrative, reflecting the complexity of identity and memory. She was a member of the California Society of Printmakers and exhibited internationally. Erica Aitken passed away in 2025.
