DESCRIPTION
Gravity refers to my experience of immigration as a state of radical displacement—physical, cultural, and existential. The central figure of the girl is presented in a state of indefinite weightlessness: her body is deprived of stable support and fixed in an intermediate state between movement and rest. This bodily “in-between” functions as a metaphor for a subject existing outside a stable coordinate system — between homeland and new territory, between past and emerging identity. The pictorial space of the painting is built on a tense discrepancy between form and content. The intense palette of green, yellow, and pink tones creates a sense of vital energy and visual fullness, but it is precisely this decorative saturation that reinforces the tragedy of the statement. Here, color functions not as a sign of harmony, but as a symptom of external adaptation that conceals internal rupture and instability. The fundamental element of the composition is the contrast between the human body and succulents. These plants, biologically oriented towards survival, are capable of taking root in any environment: their roots sprout instantly, pressing their stems to the ground and securing their presence. Can humans possess these same qualities? Or is their dependence on their roots, their language, and the place where they were born so strong that it prevents them from taking root in other conditions, leaving them in a state of gravity? Succulents serve as a visual metaphor for unconditional adaptability—a quality that is not fully accessible to humans.
