She looks at you , calm, serious, unyielding. And she doesn’t let go. From every angle of the room, her gaze follows you , questioning, demanding, human.
 
“Tanja” is a portrait of a young Ukrainian woman, created in the midst of war.
Painted during the Russian invasion, the work carries the grief of a life lost , and at the same time, the hope that humanity endures, even in the darkest of times.
 
BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
Nadiya Spiller (b. 1979, Donetsk, Ukraine) is a Berlin-based artist and ophthalmologist whose work bridges the precision of science with the expressive freedom of visual art.
 
Originally trained in medicine, Spiller graduated in Ophthalmology from TU Dresden and earned her Doctoral Degree from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
Alongside a distinguished medical career, she discovered her passion for painting in 2021, developing a unique pixel-texture technique that merges meticulous structure with vibrant emotion , a reflection of her dual background in art and science.
 
Her artistic journey began in Cairo, where she lived from 2021 to 2024, exhibiting in several solo and group shows including “Timeless Pixels” (Craftastic, 2022), “Continuum VI” (Al Mashrabia Art Gallery, 2023), and “Art as a Weapon” (German Embassy, 2024). Her works explore the interplay between order and chaos, light and emotion, revealing a deep fascination with perception and detail.
 
Since 2024, Spiller has been based in Berlin, continuing her artistic and medical practice. She is fluent in German, English, Ukrainian, and Russian.
