BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
John Mangiardi began painting in 1991 after a 20-year career as a brain surgeon. His artistic vision is deeply influenced by years spent observing the vibrant, rhythmic structures of the brain under a microscope, inspiring a lifelong fascination with color, form, and motion.
Living in New York’s SoHo during the rise of graffiti, neo-expressionism, and photorealism, Mangiardi was immersed in a dynamic art scene and connected with influential figures such as Basquiat and Rauschenberg. He later studied at the Art Students League of New York, refining his ability to translate anatomy into expressive visual narratives.
Drawn to oil painting for its depth and physicality, his work explores storytelling through color and movement, guided by a flexible, intuitive approach rather than adherence to any single style. Since 2020, he has resumed painting in Brighton, London, Barcelona, and currently, Westhampton Beach, New York.
