This image speaks softly, yet with insistence. It does not seduce — it draws one in.
Sweetness is not a promise here, but a state that has already begun to tilt.
The face appears like a quiet event. It is not depicted, but allowed to emerge. Color, light,
and structure seem to have briefly agreed to simulate human closeness. The honeycomb
pattern settles over it like a system of order and distance — an attempt to hold what is
delicate without truly being able to protect it.
The bee at the mouth is not a decorative detail, but the pivot of the work. It is small, real,
almost brutally concrete. There, where language is formed, where desire begins, where
sweetness is implied, it rests — drawn in, yet armed. Beauty calls, and the world
responds. Not tenderly, but instinctively.
The eyes make no promise. They know. Perhaps not everything, but enough not to be
surprised. This knowledge is what makes the image so vulnerable: it does not show a
moment before experience, but one fully within it. The sting is possible. Perhaps already
accounted for...
 
BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
Nadiya Spiller (born 28 July 1979 in Donetsk, Ukraine) is a Berlin-based ophthalmologist and contemporary artist. Originally trained as a medical doctor in Donetsk and Dresden, she has worked in ophthalmology in Germany since 2007 and became board-certified in 2021. In 2025 she earned her doctoral degree from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
Alongside her medical career, Nadiya has pursued art since receiving the title Artist of Ukraine in 1997. In 2021 she developed her distinctive pixel-texture painting technique, which has been exhibited in Cairo and Berlin, including the solo shows Timeless Pixels (2022) and Art as a Weapon (2024).
She speaks Ukrainian and Russian natively, is fluent in German, and has good command of English. Nadiya lives in Berlin with her husband and three sons.
