The extraordinary "Lemon Leopard" painting, made by Canadian Sam Chilvers, is now being presented at the Toolip Art Gallery.
 
BIOGRAPHY
Born in London, Ontario, Canada, to a family of artists, Samantha has been making art since she could hold a pencil. Has now been a full-time professional artist for over a decade. Sam started by attending the Fine Arts program at Fanshawe College in 2009.
 
Shortly after graduation, Sam accepted a place as a resident artist with The Arts Project, the local art gallery hub in her hometown. During her two years with the gallery, Sam established herself in the Ontario art scene by being part of several exhibitions and galleries. She earned grants from city and provincial governments to inspire and develop her art.
 
However, Sam wanted to expand internationally. In 2011, she moved her studio and life to the Dominican Republic.
 
She fell in love with the ocean and the local lifestyle, making the Dominican Republic her permanent home. While exploring the island, she discovered kitesurfing in Cabarete. Within two years, Sam competed in the kite surfing world tour and is currently ranked second in Canada for women’s freestyle.
 
In 2016, Sam opened Chilvers Fine Art, her public studio and gallery in Cabarete, where she hosts events and exhibitions regularly. Though Sam spends most of her time painting and kiteboarding training, she always looks for the next adventure and place to explore! From climbing Manchu Picchu in Peru to painting glaciers in Iceland to surfing lost lakes in Morocco‘s Sahara Desert.
