DESCRIPTION
"The series ""Intimacy"" explores the various forms of closeness, spanning both the emotional and physical realms. It questions where one begins and the other ends, observing how these boundaries often blur—a theme that remains ever-present in our society.
Through a collection of deeply personal photographs, I began exploring this phenomenon during the pandemic, a time when human proximity became a taboo on many levels. While the series reflects a specific response to that period, its themes remain universal. By abstracting the human form, the interplay of shadows, detached elements of the body, and intentional blur creates an associative and vulnerable narrative."
 
BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
Xenia Nitzberg (1994) is a German-Russian artist and photographer, currently living in Vienna. She earned her diploma in Fine Art Photography & Multimedia Art from the Ortweinschule Graz in 2019. In 2018, she participated in the Canon Visa pour l’Image program in Perpignan. Her exhibition activity began 2015 in Graz, where she was also invited by Kulturvermittlung Steiermark to present her solo photography series Idylle at the Graz City Hall in 2020. Since moving to Vienna, she has continued to exhibit regularly in the fields of both, painting and photography. In her photographic work, Nitzberg focuses on artistic fashion and portrait photography, while also developing series that combine experimental approaches with documentary and social themes. Her work in painting, initially rooted in abstract and symbolic watercolors, is currently transitioning toward expressive, figurative representation. Her most recent solo exhibition of watercolor works took place in April 2026.
