BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
Svanhild Rohdin (b. July 14, 1976) is a multidisciplinary Norwegian artist primarily known for her work as a painter. Her artistic practice extends to include installation, video installation, sculpture, stencils, and other media. Rohdin is deeply committed to collaborative projects, often initiating and administrating art initiatives involving fellow artists, companies, and community volunteers. A central vision in her work is the idea of unity, bringing people together to achieve what may otherwise seem impossible.
In recent years, her most prominent project has been a global peace initiative: collecting keys from around the world to construct one large "World Key for Peace." The concept emphasizes her belief that we all hold the key within ourselves to change the world.
In 2006, Rohdin transformed an abandoned cement pool in an old factory in Slemmestad, unused for over 15 years, into a striking exhibition space. The show proved to be a significant audience success and exemplified her vision of revitalizing forgotten spaces through community and art.
She has participated in various exhibitions including Gateway in an Urban by Norwegian Form, Kunst Rett Vest, and has also contributed public art installations, such as her decorative work in the common areas of Holmsbu Spa.
Rohdin was raised in a multicultural family, a background that has fostered her open-mindedness and inspired a broad, inclusive approach to creativity. Fascinated by human emotions and relationships from an early age, she draws deeply from her own life and personal processes to create art that communicates on an intimate level. Her work invites viewers to engage with existential questions and to reflect upon their own paths and potential for change.
