DESCRIPTION
Echoes of Courage: Brenda is a portrait of a young woman with disabilities who lives a full and rich life. She points out that people’s need for programs such as Medicaid are essential to survival as many people with disabilities rely on home caregivers, vital healthcare and, as she says, “the freedom to live in their communities with dignity.” She loudly denounces Donald Trump’s harsh and cruel measures that show very clearly his lack of respect for them, their rights and especially their humanity.”
BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
Erica Aitken is a Belgian-born artist based in Santa Cruz, California. With a background in graphic design and commercial printing, her work explores the contrast between precision and imperfection through inkjet and silkscreen techniques. By layering these mediums, she creates images that reflect social, political, and emotional uncertainty, where controlled processes meet intentional accidents.
A graduate of the École de Recherches Graphiques in Brussels, Aitken returned to art after a career in printing and design. Her current practice combines photography, printmaking, and personal narrative, reflecting the complexity of identity and memory. She is a member of the California Society of Printmakers and exhibits internationally.
