DESCRIPTION

For my series “foul weather statistics,” I use images that were produced through an experimental approach in which my own original photographic dataset was deliberately destroyed and partially restored with specialized software systems. In this way, I obtained ruins of photographs that were once standard. Yet these derivatives represent their own originality, with a often coarse aesthetic and a pictorial context that has fully detached from the original meaning.

Foul Weather Statistics is a dreamlike, speculative series about what the aforementioned process may have yielded for me. Part of my experimental practice also involves recognizing unconventional textual contexts. In general, I let my thoughts drift, let them run freely, and collect words that are “induced” by the visual impression of what lies before me. Sunset in the last systems, Tsunami Number 5, and Warm Front Weather Grid tell, for me, stories of a strangely ordered geometric arrangement in which reality is not the primary driver of the visual impression; instead, fantasy, as well as technological signals and codes, have come to the fore.
