DESCRIPTION
"Jungle Boogie" is one of the newest paintings arriving at the Toolip Art Gallery.
Made by Russian artist Sergei Komiagin, it is displayed for the "Heroes, Real Human Beings" International Group Show at Toolip Art Gallery.
The portrait Jungle Boogie emerged from a performance in 2023 during the opening of Sergey Komyagin’s solo exhibition in Svetlogorsk.
During the performance, visitors were invited to participate in the artwork's creation actively. Guests were encouraged to apply strokes of acrylic paint to a canvas placed in the center of the gallery, with no restrictions on color or form.
Each participant was free to interact with the canvas, adding their energy and vision to the piece.
The result was a dynamic and expressive abstraction infused with the spirit of collective creativity, capturing the unique atmosphere of the exhibition.
Later, the artist refined the work, transforming the vivid patches of color and indistinct forms into a male portrait inspired by the legendary American musician Sly Stone — a pioneer of the funk genre. Characterized by bold rhythms and joyful chaos, the funk’s essence resonated in the collaborative canvas, inspiring Komyagin to craft this portrayal of the iconic funk figure.
