DESCRIPTION
"An Evening for One" This tranquil still life composition tells the story of an intimate moment as the day slowly draws to a close and the space belongs only to silence and personal experience. A bottle of red wine, a glass filled with ruby-colored liquid, a loaf of bread, grapes, and a selection of cheeses rest on a dark red striped textile. Each of these elements acts as a symbol of a simple but fulfilling evening – without ostentation, but with an emphasis on taste, aroma, and time. The dominant golden background, formed by a dense network of energetic strokes, creates the impression of warm light. It is reminiscent of fading sunlight or the flickering of a candle, which surrounds the scene and at the same time isolates it from the outside world. The dark bottle contrasts with the brightness of the background and becomes the vertical axis of the composition, while the roundness of the grapes and glasses softens the overall expression. The structured style of the painting emphasizes materiality—the crisp crust of bread, the waxy surface of cheese, and the shine of glass. The artist works with bold colors and textures, elevating everyday objects to convey atmosphere and mood. "Evening Time for One" is not a picture of loneliness in a negative sense, but a celebration of a moment for oneself. It is a pause, a ritual, a conscious enjoyment of the present – a moment when simplicity finds its depth.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
Ihor Bychkivskyy (*1970, Lviv, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian artist based in Prague, where he has lived since 2000. He began dedicating himself to painting in 2007, exploring a wide range of subjects including landscapes, flowers, animals, figures, still lifes, and abstract compositions.
Working mainly with oil and a palette knife, Ihor creates paintings with rich textures, vibrant colors, and a strong sense of movement. Although he does not follow a particular artistic movement, his work is often associated with New Impressionism, combining expressive brushwork with a distinctive and emotional approach to color.
Since his first exhibitions in 2008, Ihor has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe. His work has received several recognitions, including the Gallery Award at ArtFest České Budějovice in 2014, and placements among the top artists at Open ArtFest in 2021 and 2024.
His paintings are held in private collections in Europe, the United States, Qatar, Singapore, and beyond.
